Statement issued by the Department of Human Rights & Civil Society of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO)

regarding the massacre of the “Bani Odeh”family in the town of Tammun and the necessity of international protection

The Department of Human Rights & Civil Society in the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) condemns, in the strongest terms, the horrific massacre and heinous crime committed by Israeli special occupation units at dawn today in the town of Tammun. This crime targeted “Bani Odeh” family in cold blood through direct and intentional gunfire inside their car, resulting in the martyrdom of the father of the family, Ali Khalid Bani Odeh, his wife Wa’d Othman Bani Odeh, and their two children, Mohammad and Othman. This scene reflects the height of organized terrorism and savagery practiced by the Israeli occupation against Palestinian civilians.
The Department emphasizes that this crime constitutes a full-fledged war crime according to Article 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC). The deliberate shooting at heads and chests proves the intent of premeditated murder and the extrajudicial liquidation of an entire family, which is a flagrant violation of Common Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions that protects civilians in occupied territories. What happened in Tammun is not an isolated incident; but rather, it is a practical replication of the systematic policy of Israeli “genocide” that began in the Gaza Strip and is now expanding to include the cities and villages of the West Bank and Jerusalem, in implementation of the doctrine of killing and displacement adopted by the extremist Israeli occupation government.
Furthermore, the Department stresses that preventing Red Crescent crews from providing medical aid to the wounded and leaving them to bleed to death constitutes a compound crime and a violation of the rules of International Humanitarian Law. It asserts that the Israeli occupation’s flimsy claims of targeting “armed cells” are refuted by the blood of the children, confirming the falsehood of the Zionist securitymilitary narrative and its direct targeting of Palestinian existence.

Based on the above, the Department of Human Rights & Civil Society places the international community before its responsibilities and demands the following:
First: Calling on the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to open an immediate criminal investigation into the “Bani Odeh” family massacre, and issue arrest warrants for the military and field commanders responsible for this physical liquidation, and include them in the investigation files for crimes of genocide.
Second: Activating the continuous and reaffirmed call of His Excellency, the Palestinian President - Mahmoud Abbas, on the necessity of providing urgent and effective international protection for the Palestinian people, and calling on the Secretary-General of the United Nations to immediately begin procedures to put this system into effect to stop the shedding of Palestinian blood.
Third: Demanding the Human Rights Council and the High Commissioner to appoint an independent international expert to document crimes against Palestinian children, especially with the targeting of the two child martyrs Mohammad and Othman and other wounded, and condemning the policy of systematic obstruction of medical relief.
Fourth: Calling on the High Contracting Parties to the Geneva Conventions to hold an emergency meeting to hold the Israeli occupation state accountable for its grave breaches of the Fourth Geneva Convention and to impose deterrent international sanctions.
The silence of the international community is what gives the Israeli occupation the green light to continue slaughtering our children. We in the P.L.O will continue to pursue the perpetrators of these crimes and their leaders in all international judicial forums until justice is achieved and our people attain their freedom and independence.
Honor and Glory to the martyrs of Tammun village and Bani Odeh family; quick recovery for the wounded children.
