Urgent Press Release Department of Human Rights and Civil Society – Palestine Liberation Organization

One of the ships of the "Freedom Flotilla," organized by an international network of human rights advocates opposing the Israeli blockade on Gaza, was attacked by a drone while sailing in international waters off the coast of Malta. The assault caused the vessel to catch fire and sink, while thirty brave international activists—men and women from various European countries—remain on board. They were on a humanitarian mission to deliver aid to the besieged population in Gaza.

Despite repeated distress calls, none of the nearby countries, have responded so far to rescue the crew and passengers, marking a dangerous act of negligence and a blatant violation of international law and basic humanitarian duty.

The Department of Human Rights and Civil Society of the Palestine Liberation Organization holds the international community fully responsible for the safety of these courageous individuals who risked their lives to break the blockade and expose its crimes. We call for an immediate, independent, and transparent investigation into this cowardly attack and for urgent international protection to be provided to humanitarian aid vessels heading to Gaza.

We salute these heroes and call upon all free people around the world to act immediately to save their lives and break the silence in the face of this latest crime against humanity.
